RSVP opportunities are as diverse as the volunteers themselves.

If you are ready to balance your leisure time with your community involvement here are a few of the sites looking for your skills.

Volunteer Opportunities:

The Comseqogue Youth Club has a community garden at the J.F.K. Middle School in Port Jefferson Station for beginners to experienced gardeners. If this is something you might like to try, please call Carmela on ext. 16.

Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) has joined the RSVP family as a new volunteer station.  Their day habilitation program, located in Smithtown, needs volunteers to teach the staff hobbies, such as art, knitting, sculpting, writing, cooking, computers, etc; so they can, in turn, teach their clients who attend the day program.  There are many other volunteer opportunities available to help individuals in various DDI locations throughout Suffolk County; so if interested, please call Carmela on ext. 16.

Huntington Youth Bureau is a new RSVP station that enriches the lives of youth in their local communities.  They work to develop the students’ social, personal and academic skills to help them excel in all areas of their lives.  Volunteers are needed to help in special events, clerical work and as GED tutors.  Please call Carmela on ext. 16 if you are interested in volunteering at this wonderful site.

The American Red Cross needs volunteers to assist in times of disaster. Volunteers with good intake skills are needed to man phones at the Yaphank office. Intake incoming emergency information and relay it to ARC Center. Volunteers can choose a 2-3 hour daytime shift. Training is provided. Call Carmela on ext. 16 if interested.

The Long Island Maritime Museum in Sayville is looking for docents (tour guides) for school children’s tours.  Please contact Sue on ext. 15 if interested.
