On a lovely day in April, RSVP’s Executive Director, Pegi Orsino, paid a visit to one of our beautiful partnering sites – The Fire Island National Seashore and Lighthouse. Now that the warmer months are upon us, the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society will be in need of a few more volunteers to help with the many interesting summer programs they sponsor. While enjoying her visit, Pegi met with Irene Rosen who coordinates the volunteers for the National Park Service/L.I. Seashore and Amanda Vaskas who is the coordinator for the Lighthouse Preservation Society. Also on hand was Mike Trotta who was recently named Outstanding Volunteer for his service at the Lighthouse. Congratulations Mike and thank you to all the volunteers who share their time and talents with the Fire Island National Seashore. For information about volunteering at the Seashore or at any of our other amazing sites, please call the RSVP office and ask for Denise.

Here are a few more sites in need of volunteers. If you’re looking for a change or maybe would like to add another day of volunteering, these opportunities might be of interest to you.
The Open Door Exchange in Port Jefferson Station is looking for enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to help in the warehouse repairing and restoring donated furniture that will be given to needy families on Long Island. There is also a need for clerical and community outreach help.
Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown is in need of volunteers to help with the Butterfly Garden, act as Greeters or help to answer the phones. If you have a love of gardening, this site is for you!
Caleb Smith State Park in Smithtown would like to have volunteers to greet visitors, answer questions and “point” people in the right direction. There is also a need for people to take care of the gardens and general carpentry. Volunteers would be exempt from the New York State parking fee and would receive free admission to events sponsored by the park.
Volunteers who have given at least 40 hours of service from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017 will be receiving an invitation. Hope you’ll be with us at our NEW VENUE – Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown.
