Summer 2014 Newsletter
Summer 2014 |
Dear Friends,
Hope this finds you sitting poolside (or on the sand) enjoying this wonderful weather we are being rewarded with, after enduring the winter of 2013-2014! Thanks to all those who continue to work at their volunteer placements no matter what the thermometer says! Both the organizations you serve and the community at large (as well as we here at RSVP) appreciate your dedication to serving the residents of Suffolk County.
RSVP celebrates Sally Economou who was recently named “Senior Citizen of the Year in Suffolk County 2014”. Sally was honored for her countless hours at several placements, including hospice service with the Visiting Nurse Service of Suffolk County. Sally is known to us in the Smithtown office as a Telephone Reassurance Volunteer. She can be heard chatting about almost any subject under the sun with the many TR recipients who are called from this program daily to see how they are faring and check on their well-being. Sally also takes her therapy dog Shadow on the road visiting libraries, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers to provide some canine comfort to all the folks she encounters. Our sincere congratulations to Sally on being recognized for her volunteer efforts. In the past 5 years, 4 RSVP volunteers have been honored with this award. That’s quite a record for community service by RSVP volunteers!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Tuesday September 16 th, when our annual Tribute Day Luncheon and Expo will take place. This year, for a change of setting, the event will be at the famous Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook. Hope to see you there!
In the meantime, enjoy and wear your sunscreen!
