Dear Volunteers,
I hope that you all have a Happy, Healthy New Year and that your Christmas /Hanukkah holidays were magical! As the winter is upon us, please know with inclement weather, we don’t want any of you volunteers placing life or limb in peril! If you are uncomfortable with driving conditions, please call your site supervisor at your placement and cancel for that day. In this way they are aware and won’t worry.
From the headline at the top of the newsletter, you see that we have reserved Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook for Tribute Day 2018. Although Stonebridge Country Club was lovely, the parking and ample space for our exhibitors presented a problem. So mark your calendars accordingly, complete your attendance sheets and we’ll see you for dancing, lunch, raffles and expo in September!
Remember back when you were a kid growing up, what was the most important day other than Christmas? Your Birthday of course! RSVP has found a great organization that gives birthday parties at homeless shelters for those children experiencing homelessness! Birthday Wishes is a non-profit that brings an individual party to children living at various shelters throughout Suffolk County. RSVP has committed our Martin Luther King Day of Service Project to assist this great organization by compiling Party Fun bags and boxes. Following my letter, you will find simple information as to how you can donate and really brighten a child’s life. You generous elves can bring your “party bag” donations to our Smithtown office, and we will be happy to deliver them to the Birthday Wishes office in Hicksville. And if you want to go above and beyond, there is an Amazon link for toys they need.
Stay warm, enjoy the chill and thank you for your gift of giving: Yourselves!
Best,
Pegi Orsino
Executive Director
Please Help Us!!
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his Legacy of Service, RSVP is asking your help to support the wonderful work of a not-for-profit organization called “Birthday Wishes.” Their mission is to provide birthday parties to children experiencing homelessness. This year, more than 34,000 children living in more than 62 shelters and transitional living facilities across Long Island will experience the magic of a Birthday Wishes party; and what would a birthday party be without colorful decorations!
So during the month of January, RSVP will be collecting Party Fun Packs from anyone who would like to bring smiles to a child celebrating a birthday while living in a shelter. A Party Fun Pack includes:
Please package all items together in a birthday gift bag. These Party Fun Packs can be dropped off at our RSVP office at 811 W. Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown.
If you would like to buy a birthday present, or if you want to learn more about this organization, you can check out the Birthday Wishes website at www.longisland.birthdaywishes.org.
"Everybody can be great ... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." ~~~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
