A Warm Welcome to RSVP’s New
Community Computer Connections Program
Volunteer Coordinator - Allen Schwartz
We are extremely happy to introduce you to a new member of our team. Allen Schwartz will come on board as the new volunteer coordinator of RSVP’s CCC Program. He joins a dedicated group of volunteers, all with different skills and tasks to do, but with the same goal: providing refurbished computers to individuals and families who could otherwise never afford this technology. We have asked Allen to tell you a little bit about himself and why he decided to join RSVP.
My wife, Leona, actually introduced me to CCCP. She handed me the October Newsday article about the Community Computer Connections Program and said, “This is right up your alley!” My entire career has been involved with computers and customer service, from my shipboard days on a U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier to support of the 2010 Census. I worked on computer systems that filled rooms, to semiconductor processing equipment that led the way to today’s smaller handheld devices … and as an operations leader, I understand the importance of good service.
And so I called RSVP, and the next thing I knew, I was sitting across from Joel Becker, discussing the Community Computer Connections Program and the Coordinator’s role. There is a very high level of enthusiasm that surrounds Joel as he discusses the group’s mission and his volunteer team. I tried to ‘dampen’ my fit somewhat by commenting: “I really don’t have volunteer experience.” He was undaunted!
So here I am, my picture in the RSVP Newsletter, partnering with a talented team of volunteers, doing wonderful work bringing technology to as many as we can! I wonder how next week will go?
Pegi Orsino comments, “welcome aboard the RSVP team Allen; CCCP couldn’t be getting a more enthused and experienced coordinator to fill Joel’s shoes.” And although Joel will still play a behind the scenes role in the program, he’s trading in his shoes for docksiders, as he plans on having more time for his other passion, sailing!”
CCCP looks forward to having Allen’s energy and expertise, and we wish him lots of good luck as he “sets sail” on this new adventure!
