HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program) is a program of RSVP. The purpose of HIICAP is to provide free, unbiased information to help people navigate Medicare and Medicaid.
Beginning in 2025, the annual out-of-pocket costs will be capped at $2,000, which will eliminate the Coverage Gap. Also, in the fall of 2024, the Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services, along with drug manufacturers will be discussing price negotiations on ten drugs. The drugs under price negotiation are: Eliquis, Jardiance, Xarelto, Januvia, Farxiga, Entresto, Enbrel, Imbruvica, Stelara and Fiasp. New prices would take effect in 2026. New York State Office For the Aging will be issuing new prices for all plans right before Open Enrollment which takes place from October 15 to December 7, 2024.
If you would like to have your name added to the list of those interested in receiving the 2025 drug pricing information, please call our Help Line at 631-979-9490 x18. Also, RSVP HIICAP counselors are in libraries throughout Suffolk County to provide in-person counseling as well as phone counseling on the Help Line number listed above. As our counselors say, “Keep our phone number and make us a part of your family.
On June 8th, our RSVP Board President and Volunteer, Rob Rosen, participated in the Tour de Cure which is a premier cycling event of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Tour de Cure provides a unique opportunity for individuals to combine their love for cycling with a greater purpose. Riders raise awareness about diabetes and contribute to the fight against this chronic disease.
LIVING HEALTHY WITH BETTER CHOICES
This wonderful program sponsored by RSVP is now taking reservations for two very important workshops. These workshops will take place at various locations in Suffolk County. They are:
A Matter of Balance. This free 8-week evidence-based workshop is designed to help older adults manage falls and increase activity levels. Classes are held twice a week for 4 weeks for 2 hours or once a week for 8 weeks for 2 hours each.
Chronic Disease Self-Management. This free 6-week workshop helps people deal with chronic illness – from communicating with your doctor to watching your diet. Along with this, attendees will get the support they need to feel more confident in managing their health. A handbook is provided at Session 4 to help you with your journey!
